Property Valuation Appeals by Cook County Board of Review
The Cook County Board of Review is open for property valuation appeals for NORTH, SOUTH, WEST Townships from now until January 8, 2019.
Appealing your assessment is an opportunity for residents to ensure Cook County is valuing your property fairly, which in turn affects how much you pay in property taxes.
When you appeal with the Board of Review, the staff will analyze your property’s assessment (set by the Assessor), compare it to like-properties in your area and apply a reduction in value if supported.
There is no cost to appealing your property’s assessment and the appeal will not cause the Board of Review to raise your assessment.
Here are a few helpful reminders and tips on filing an appeal:
• Property owners may file an appeal online at www.CookCountyBoardofReview.com. You will need your Property Index Number (PIN) to file online.
• Property owners can also file an appeal at the Board of Review office located at 118 North Clark, Room 601.
• If you have refinanced your property or purchased it in the last 12 months, please attach a copy of the appraisal and/or closing document or mail to our office. An appraisal or closing document is a very useful tool for the Board of Review in determining market value for your home.
• The only requirement to appeal a property assessment is a completed complaint form filed before the township appeal period closes. You do not need to provide evidence; Board of Review staff will find comparable property in your neighborhood when analyzing your home.
The Cook County Board of Review is a quasi-judicial agency responsible for adjudicating assessment appeals for all property in Cook County. Last year the Board reviewed over 400,000 appeals.

2019 Shared Cost Sidewalk Program One-day application period opens Tuesday, January 8th!
The one-day application period for the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT)’s annual Shared Cost Sidewalk Program opens Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 12:01am.
The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program is an extremely popular voluntary program in which property owners share the cost of sidewalk repair with the City. Thousands of Chicagoans have been a part of this popular program, taking advantage of the low cost, exceptional value, and ease of participation.
The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program cost per square foot charged to property owners is well below what a private contractor would charge. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may qualify for a further discounted rate.
Applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis, and the number of participants will be based on availability of funds. The program typically reaches capacity quickly, so apply early!
Applications will only be accepted through the City’s 311 system by calling 3-1-1 or through the City’s service request website www.cityofchicago.org/311. The property owner’s contact information and the property address are required at the time of request.

Holiday Tree Recycling Program opens on January 5th
The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation and the Chicago Park District announced that the City’s 30th annual holiday tree recycling program will run from Saturday, January 5th, through Saturday, January 19th, at 25 locations citywide.
Live holiday trees can be dropped off inside tree corrals set up at any one of the 25 designated Chicago Park District locations. The holiday tree recycling program is not able to accept wreaths or garlands. Ornaments, lights and tinsels must be removed before the tree is dropped off and trees should be removed from any bags when placed in the tree recycling corrals.
Trees recycled through the program are turned into mulch, wood chips for use at Chicago Park Districts and materials for use by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

Traffic Impacts and Event Details for Chicago’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks
New this year, in addition to the Navy Pier Fireworks, the Chicago River will come alive with fireworks from Wolf Point to Lake Shore Drive sponsored by several hospitality industry leaders.
The fireworks will be displayed in tandem with Navy Pier’s Fireworks when the clock strikes midnight. Residents should be advised that these fireworks will not be as loud as the ones used for the Navy Pier Fireworks.

BRIDGE CLOSURES
Please note that the Franklin, Clark, and Wabash bridges will be closed beginning at 11pm on Monday, December 31, New Year’s Eve, until 12:15am on Tuesday, January 1, New Year’s Day to facilitate the display.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
• Curb lane closures will be in place along the Franklin, Clark and Wabash bridges and will begin at 7pm on Monday, December 31 until 1am on Tuesday, January 1.
• Eastbound Lower Wacker, between Michigan Avenue and the turnaround is anticipated to close beginning at approximately 11:30pm on Monday, December 31 through 12:15am on Tuesday, January 1.
• Upper Wacker, Lake to Stetson, is anticipated to close beginning at 11pm on Monday, December 31 through completion of the event.
• Please note that the Chicago Police Department may implement additional intermittent or rolling closures at their discretion for the purpose of public safety.

Residents are strongly advised to allow extra travel time and be mindful of traffic impacts.
RIVERWALK CLOSURE:
• The Riverwalk will close promptly at 10pm and remain closed until it opens the following morning to the public.
• NO viewing of the fireworks will be allowed on the Riverwalk.
