Update on Grand Avenue Bascule Bridge Repair Project

The Grand Avenue Bridge Project is behind schedule due to material procurement and design constraints.

In order to complete the project on time, the Chicago Department of Transportation will prohibit vehicular traffic in both directions on the Grand Avenue Bridge starting Monday, October 10. The sidewalk on the northside of the bridge will remain open to pedestrian traffic.

The full closure is expected to last two months.

18th District CPD Costume and Candy Drive to help families in domestic violence shelters

You can make a difference!  Please help the 18th District collect candy and New or Gently used COSTUMES  for children and families in Domestic Violence Shelters.   All contributions will be accepted until October 24th.  Please drop them off at the 18th District police station at 1160 N. RNRA Public Safety Survey: River North and Beyond

RNRA has published public safety recommendations in the form of a survey, to give people the opportunity to express support or opposition and to submit other ideas. The results will be posted and shared with City, County, and State Officials. We encourage everyone who loves this city to participate.

Chicago Casino Advisory Council Announced

On Sep 8, Mayor Lightfoot’s office issued a press release announcing the members of the Casino Community Advisory Council (CCAC). RNRA will be ably represented by the Volunteer Chair of our Development and Land Use Committee, Ms. Robin Schabes. We look forward to a meaningful and productive process.

November CAPS Beat Meetings

RNRA encourages all residents to attend their CAPS Beat Meetings.  

Welcome new RNRA Board Members!

At its August Board Meeting, RNRA welcomed three new Directors: Michele Berman, Eileen Murray, and Debra Schalk. Each brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and imagination, along with the requisite love of River North. Their ideas and passion will be welcome additions to the leadership team.

Cannabis Update

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) held a hearing on August 19th to review the Special Use applications for a proposed Cannabis Dispensary at 605 North Clark Street.

At the meeting, ZBA voted to continue the matter proposed at 605 North Clark Street. It is now scheduled to be reviewed on October 21, 2022.  Stay tuned to the ZBA website for more information and for the link to the October 21st meeting.

January will mark the second anniversary of the legalization of recreational adult use cannabis in Illinois. So far, a total of 17 dispensaries have opened around the city of Chicago, including 3 in River North. For more information on the licensing process, please click here.
