Possible Cinco de Mayo “Celebrations” on Thursday, May 5, 2022

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) has indicated they are preparing for a large number of cars and caravans in the Downtown neighborhoods in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, on Thursday May 5, 2022. The City has not permitted any planned events, but CPD is closely monitoring social media chatter and proactively planning to mitigate traffic delays.
It is expected that this may affect routes on Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue, and State Street. CPD is prepared to divert traffic in order to minimize the negative impact on businesses and residents, and may enact street closures to divert the caravan into alternate routes as needed. Alderman Reilly encourages residents to allow for extra travel time when traveling in the area.
Residents can receive real-time alerts from the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) relating to traffic closures. Notify Chicago is a city service that provides residents with text messages, and/or e-mail alerts on various emergency and non-emergency situations (including traffic impacts, severe weather emergencies, and hazardous materials) taking place throughout Chicago. Click here to register.
