The Department of Transportation (CDOT) recently announced plans for construction on the Halsted Avenue viaduct and the Chicago Avenue viaduct and bridge. Work on Halsted Avenue is expected to begin around August 1, and work on the Chicago Avenue bridge is expected to begin as soon as September 1. CDOT has proposed a work schedule of 7am-3:30pm on weekdays.

The construction will result in a full vehicular and pedestrian closure on the Chicago Avenue bridge. CDOT will implement detours for pedestrians, vehicles, and CTA buses during the entirety of construction. Work on Halsted Avenue is expected to be completed by the end of Summer 2026, and construction on the Chicago Avenue bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

CDOT does not expect any overnight work, but the project may include weekend work on Saturdays with the regular timing. Stay tuned to Reilly Reports for updates on this construction project. To watch a recorded meeting of CDOT’s presentation of this project, please click here.

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is currently gathering community input as a part of their Advancing Community-Focused Policing initiative. This is to implement community policing at all levels of the department with the goal of assisting the department in the following areas:

An online survey is available for residents to submit feedback to CPD. Those interested in participating may complete the survey by clicking the button below.  The online survey will be open through June 27, 2025.

Feedback from this Community-Focused Policing Initiative will be incorporated into a “synthesized feedback report” to help CPD shape officer deployment patterns, the way officers engage with the community, and the overall goals of CPD’s new strategic plan. Captain Bielfeldt, a 26-year member of the department, will now serve as the Commander of the 18th (Near North) District. During his time as a Captain, Commander Bielfeldt was assigned to Airport Operations – South, where he oversaw CPD’s public safety operations at Midway Airport.

Commander Bielfeldt was also a Captain in the 17th (Albany Park) District, the Central Control Group and the 18th District, which he will now command. While a Lieutenant, he was assigned to the Bureau of Detectives, where he worked on the re-opening of the Area Four and Area Five detective divisions.

He was also a Saturation Lieutenant in Area Central, and both a Watch Operations and Field Lieutenant in the 12th (Near West) District. As a Sergeant, Commander Bielfeldt served in the Special Functions Division, the Bureau of Patrol, the 7th (Englewood) District and the 12th District.

Commander Bielfeldt holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Illinois State University. He also attended the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
