River North Lighting Program

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be installing new light poles in the River North neighborhood in the coming weeks. The lighting improvements are occurring within the area bounded by Chicago Avenue, Orleans Street, Larrabee Street, and Ontario Street.
This work will include infrastructure trenching and helix foundation and pole installation. Please note: This work will disrupt planter beds within the parkway.
CDOT will begin working on Hubson, between Chicago and Erie next week. After that, CDOT will move to the following streets:
  • Huron, from Kingsbury to Sedgwick
  • Kingsbury, Ontario to Chicago
  • Huron from Larrabee to Kingsbury
  • Superior from Larrabee to Kingsbury
  • Erie from Larrabee to Kingsbury
Please contact CDOT if your building has plantings, irrigation systems, or electrical components in a planter. You will need to remove anything you do not want damaged by the light pole installation.

Ohio Place Dog Park

The Ohio Place Dog Park re-opened earlier this week after undergoing much-needed improvements. Following feedback from residents, Alderman Reilly allocated a portion of Aldermanic Menu funds for upgrades, including hydroseeding to enhance the park’s landscaping. The park was temporarily closed for three weeks to allow the new grass to grow undisturbed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. Now that the work is complete, we hope you and your pets enjoy the revitalized space.

NASCAR Street Race 2024 Closures Begin June 10th

NASCAR Chicago’s 2024 Street Race will take place July 6 – July 7. NASCAR will begin building the race track and event space in early June, which will require sidewalk and roadway closures.
The following sidewalk and street closures will go into effect on Monday, June 10:
  • Full closure on Ida B. Wells Drive from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive including sidewalks.
  • Westbound between Congress Circle and Michigan Avenue will remain open, but eastbound between Michigan and Congress Circle will be closed.
  • No parking on southbound Columbus Drive, between Jackson Drive and Balbo Drive

Ohio Place Dog Park Temporary Closure – Monday 5/13 for three weeks

Message from Alderman Brendan Reilly

Based on resident feedback, Alderman Reilly has allocated a portion of the Aldermanic Menu to fund improvements at the Ohio Place Dog Park.

Last fall, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) installed sod throughout the Park at the Alderman’s request. Unfortunately, residents allowed their dogs to play on the sod while fencing and “Keep Off Grass” signage was in-place. This ruined the sod because it wasn’t able to take root.

On Monday, May 13, CDOT will close the park and conduct hydroseeding. The Park will be closed for three weeks to allow the new grass to grow uninterrupted.

Ward 42  encourages you to use the Larrabee Street Dog Park during the closure.

Chicago Housing Authority – Cabrini Now Kickoff Celebration – Community Driven Planning

The Chicago Housing Authority is excited to invite you to the Cabrini Now kickoff celebration and first community consultation on May 8, 5:30-7:30pm at Ogden-Jenner Elementary School (1119 N. Cleveland Ave). Cabrini Now is a community driven planning and design effort to improve the Cabrini neighborhood through housing and economic development on CHA properties.

The Cabrini Now process will build on previous community planning efforts, including the 2015 Development Zone Plan, to create an updated plan that furthers the neighborhood’s vibrant vision while responding to current affordable housing needs in the neighborhood and across Chicago. The May 8th kickoff celebration will not only provide information about the planning process that is starting for Cabrini but will also invite community members to express their vision and priorities and share what they love most about living in Cabrini.
