2018 June RNRA Dog Park Safety Education Event – Erie/Larrabee DFA

On Saturday June 16 RNRA held our first Dog Park Safety Education Event providing dog owners with information to help give their dogs the best dog park experience and reduce the risk of attacks and illnesses.

Thank you to Anthony Falada, RNRA Board of Directors and Chair of the Pet Owners' Committee for organizing this event and to all of our event partners who made this possible.

 

 

 

 

Speaker #1 - Certified Dog Trainer - Rendy Schuchat, M.A., owner of Anything is Pawzible, spoke on signs of aggression, possible escalation and what to do with the situation where a fight has begun.

Speaker #2 - Veterinarian - Elaine Simpson, DVM, of Animal Medical Center of Chicago spoke on triage in the event of a dog fight, ALL vaccines dogs should have in and out of the DFA's, home first aid and wellness, and where to go after an incident or fight.

Speaker #3 - Animal Control - Kelley Gandurski, Deputy Director and General Counsel for Animal Care and Control, spoke on dog laws, tags and responsibilities of the owners.  Also how and where to report a dog bite, and the difference beween a dog biting another dog vs. biting a person.
