27,000 square foot facility will reopen under new management 4th Quarter 2017
RIVER NORTH, CHICAGO, Illinois, September 18, 29017 – Almost 9 months after shutting down, the space once occupied by David Barton Gym, will be reopened under the management of River North Gym. The space is owned by ECQ 600 W. Chicago Property LLC. Club Ventures LLC originally owned and operated several of the David Barton Gym facilities. On December 21st, 2016, DavidBartonGym.com announced that they were closing their locations in New York, Boston, Miami, Bellevue (Wash), and 600 W. Chicago Ave. in Chicago, Illinois. Club Ventures stated their closing was due to filing for bankruptcy and “severe competitive pressures.”
The original location of River North Gym opened in 2011 inside of the Merchandise Mart (222 Merchandise Mart Plaza, Suite 951). This original location is now just under 22,000 square feet, having undergone three expansions from the club’s inception until present day. The 600 W. Chicago Avenue location will be their second under the River North Gym name. Both locations of River North Gym are privately owned and operated by Bernie LeCocq.
It was later discovered that Club Ventures III LLC, DBA David Barton Gym had 600 W. Chicago Ave. as it’s main place of business. They filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York. Chapter 7 means that the company was going to liquidate. Three other locations of David Barton Gym, owned by Meridian Sports Club LLC remain open in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
“Once complete, the updated space will emphasize the natural light and incredible river views unique to this location, and feature new equipment and a variety of classes similar to boutique fitness providers but within a full-service gym,” Bernie LeCocq, owner of River North Gym.
