Condominium Owners’ Privacy Ordinance Passes Housing Committee

Alderman Hopkins and Alderman Reilly presented testimony in support of “Home Rule Authority” to protect condo owners’ privacy before the Committee on Housing and Real Estate on March 26, 2018.

The Committee on Housing and Real Estate met today at City Hall for a hearing on the Condominium Owners’ Privacy Ordinance. The ordinance passed unanimously through committee. It now goes before the City Council this Wednesday March 28, 2018.

Introduced at January’s City Council, Alderman Reilly and Alderman Hopkins co-sponsored this ordinance ,which invokes Chicago’s “Home Rule Authority,” overruling a section of the Illinois Condominium Property Act that was enacted into law by the Illinois State Legislature on January 1, 2018.

Alderman Hopkins and Alderman Reilly took issue with a particular section of the Act that forces condominium owners to disclose personal information, such as email addresses and cell phone numbers, upon request from a third party.

The “Home Rule Authority” measure will protect homeowners associations from being required to share unit owners’ private information unless there is a majority vote from the entire association to disclose such information.

Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K this Sunday, March 25, 2018 Impacts Loop Area Residents

As preparations begin for one of Chicago’s classic races in the downtown area, the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) reminds residents of the traffic impacts for the set up and duration of the 39th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K race on Sunday, March 25, 2018, which includes over 25,000 runners.

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K on Sunday starts in two waves, with the first wave beginning at 8:30am and the second wave taking off at 9am. The 2-mile walk with an estimated 1,000 participants, begins at 9:30am.

Traffic Impacts:
As in years past, organizers are working with the Chicago Police Department and OEMC to ensure that street closures follow a “rolling pattern” so as the last participant passes, the street will reopen and traffic will return to normal as quickly as possible.

Street closures will be in effect in the Grant Park area for preparations and set up of the event:

Friday, March 23, through Sunday morning:

• Balbo, from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive

Early Saturday morning, March 24:

• Columbus, from Roosevelt to Monroe

Sunday, March 25, approximately 8am to 11:15am:

• Columbus, from Monroe to Randolph
• Columbus, from Roosevelt to Grand
• Grand, from Columbus to State
• State, from Grand to Jackson
• Jackson, State to LaSalle
• LaSalle from Jackson to Randolph
• Randolph, from LaSalle to Franklin
• Franklin, Randolph to Harrison
• Harrison, from Franklin to Michigan
• S. Michigan, (northbound lanes) from Harrison to Roosevelt
• Roosevelt, (westbound lanes) from Michigan to Columbus

Columbus, from Monroe to Randolph will also be closed in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 25

Lake Shore Drive will remain open during the race.

City streets will re-open promptly as the final runners pass through (at a 15-minute mile pace). The Chicago Police Department will be responsible for closing and re-opening streets, they will do so in a manner ensuring runner and spectator safety.

In addition to race day route closures, residents and businesses should also be aware of the parking restrictions along the race course on Sunday. Vehicles not removed by that time will be ticketed and towed. To locate a towed vehicle, motorists can call 3-1-1 or 312-744-4444 (automated system).

Additional Information:
Those attending the race events should always heed any warnings given and be cognizant of surroundings, reporting any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 or on-site security.

As with all major events in Chicago, OEMC will be monitoring activities and weather conditions, as well as deploying Traffic Control Aides to facilitate traffic.

Alderman Reilly Honors Gilda’s Club of Chicago’s 20th Anniversary

Last Month, Alderman Reilly visited Gilda’s Club of Chicago to present them with a City Council Resolution, celebrating the organization’s impressive work in providing free support for men, women, teens, and children, whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

Gilda’s Club was named after Gilda Radner, one of the original cast members of “Saturday Night Live.” Laughter and love were central themes of Gilda’s career and life, including in her marriage to actor and comedian Gene Wilder, the original Willy Wonka. Gilda was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1985. She passed away in 1989, but her legacy lived on when her husband and friends established Gilda’s Club and the first red door opened in New York City in 1995.

Gilda’s Club Chicago opened its welcoming Red Door at 537 N. Wells on Valentine’s Day in 1998, and since then they have reached more than 45,000 individuals.

Early Voting Now Available for the March 20, 2018 Primary Election

Early Voting for the upcoming Primary Election is now offered at the Loop Super Site located at 16 W. Adams Street, Monday through Saturday, 9:00am – 5:00pm, and Sundays, 10:00am – 4:00pm, through March 4.

From March 5 to March 19, Early Voting will be available at 51 sites throughout Chicago.  University Early Voting will also be offered at Chicago State, UIC, and Northeastern on select dates.

Early Voting allows registered voters to cast their ballot in advance of the Tuesday, March 20 Primary Election.  Registration services are also available at Early Voting sites.

During Early Voting:

• Any Chicago voter may use any Early Voting site in the city, regardless of where the voter lives.

• Ballots cast in Early Voting are final. After casting ballots in Early Voting, voters may not return to amend, change or undo a ballot for any reason. It is a felony to vote more than once — or to attempt to vote more than once — in the same election.

• Government-issued photo ID is not required but is helpful if there is a question about the voter’s registration, address or signature.

• Registration services also are available at all Early Voting sites. NOTE: Any voter who needs to register for the first time or file an address change or name change must present two forms of ID, one of which shows the voter’s current address.

2nd Annual Citywide Job Fair Hosted by Secretary White and Alderman Burnett – March 29

March in the 2018 St. Patrick’s Day Parade with Alderman Reilly Next Saturday! 

The Downtown Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at noon. As always, Alderman Reilly will be marching with a contingent in the parade and would love for you to join! All marchers must be lined up by 11:15am.

This year Alderman Reilly will be located in Slot #42, on Balbo Drive, just west of Columbus Drive. Please look for his trolley, complete with Alderman Reilly’s St. Patrick’s Day banners. If you have any trouble finding the trolley, feel free to ask any Parade Marshal in a yellow t-shirt and they will be able to direct you.

Neighborhood Notice: Parking Restrictions Monday 3-12 and Tuesday 3-13

Twentieth Century Fox will be filming scenes for the TV show “Empire” in the neighborhood on Tuesday, March 13th. In order to park necessary vehicles and equipment for filming, streets will be posted with NO PARKING/TOW ZONE signs at the following times:

Monday, March 12th from 8:00 pm until Tuesday, March 13th at 8:00 pm

• Both sides of Huron (between Clark and Dearborn)
• South side of Superior (between Clark and Dearborn)
• North side of Erie (between Clark and Dearborn)
• West side of Dearborn (between Superior and Erie)
• East side of Clark (from Erie heading north halfway to Huron)
• East side of Clark (from Huron heading north halfway to Superior)

Intermittent street closure will also be taking place on Huron (between Clark and Dearborn) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, March 13th. There may be stoppage of traffic for minutes at a time, but no emergency vehicles will be interfered with.

The crews will be working with the Chicago Film Office and the Chicago Police Department to ensure a safe and positive filming experience.
